At the EXIT Stage Left

Our second production, The Legendary and Fabulous Passion Play by Shawn Ferreyra ran at the Exit Stage LEFT, July 14 thru August 19, 2006

Set in an underground drag world where legends are made, beauty and dreams triumph over oppression with the help of a misunderstood Messiah who makes the biggest sacrifice for love. The Legendary and Fabulous Passion Play tells the story of star-crossed lovers banned from creating a union because of their sex, the holy messenger who brings us the one truth about love and marriage, and the religious zealots who, like everybody else, are looking for answers in a world that has none.

The creation of this new work was compelled by the oppression, bigotry and heartbreak we saw in the refusal to allow same sex marriage in this country. The individual lives touched by this debate, whether seen in the media or in our family and friends, told a very personal tale of love, freedom and tolerance. To us, this very 21st century controversy paralleled classic tales of star crossed lovers and misunderstood Messiahs.
